FoCH members get a 20% discount on FoCH merchandise purchased in person. Discount will not apply to online purchases through MAS because there is no practical way to limit the discount to members.
FoCH generally offers members a Thank You token each year: so far, we have had car magnets, window clings, or embroidered patches, large maps of the park. The token is also a means of showing support for FoCH. - Discontinued 2021
Dues are $20.00 for anyone not living in Richfield. Richfield resident: $10. Student rate is $10, but any tokens or paperwork needs to be picked up at an in-person meeting. Organizational membership - $35 which entitles the organization to ONE vote at meetings, no merchandise discounts, and an open invite for members of the organization to attend the Primitive Potluck. Suggestions included providing some sort of advertising for them on our sites. But we never took action on this.
History - In the past, our membership as a whole voted on our logo concept, our tag line, discussed and approved our original work plan proposal to the RJRD ( Dec 2014), and developed FoCH’s concept for the Kirby’s Mill Restoration ( October 2015 and January 2017).
Term - The membership year is the same as the calendar year. In 2017, we are trialed a forward extension. Any new member joining during Kirby Birthday or anytime later to be considered as a member for 2018 as well as the remainder of 2017. This seems to have worked pretty well. At Kirby Day 2018, we accepted “early bird” members for 2019 and going forward.
Membership renewal reminders In 2016, we trialed sending membership renewal reminders for 2017. It seemed like it worked well. In 2018 renewal letters were deferred until spring of 2018. Large colorful post card renewals were sent in in late autumn of 2019 by and received a good response. 292 $250 allocated fir a postal mailing around Thanksgiving ( 9-29-2020)
Discounts on Dues. We have had a number of discussions on whether we should offer family discounts, senior discounts, student discounts. But we keep coming back to the fact that FoCH membership doesn’t confer a value to the member other than the satisfaction of supporting the organization. If this ever changes, the discount idea will gain more viability. The point of dues is to provide a baseline amount of support to the mission. Richfield residents get a price break because they are already paying taxes.
Member Meetings
We used to hold member meetings the third Tuesday of the month. We kept them light and friendly. They are educational and help build relationships. The most popular meetings tended to be ones which featured a guest speaker. We recruited more speakers for 2017 meetings. In 2018, every meeting featured a guest speaker. To emphasize that these events were programs open to the public, we called them the “Get to Know Your Park Lecture Series”. They were popular, but much work. In 2019 we alternated membership meetings with public, organized hikes and took December off. That seemed to work pretty well. The plan for 2020 was similar, but covid -19 forced cancellations, and conversion to virtual. Our annual meeting was virtual & well-attended. We had one-member meeting prior to the annual meeting to discuss/ explain the online board election process. There were no attendees at the prep meeting outside of our board & advisors.
