Gund Hall
Picture
George Gund Dining Hall is the main indoor gathering space at Richfield Heritage Preserve.

Gund Hall replaced Garfield as the resident camp dining hall.
Gund Hall features an industrial-strength kitchen, a wood-burning fireplace, and space for two hundred. Plus indoor bathrooms, front and back porches, and handicapped accessibility. It is conveniently located across from the north parking lots.

History

Gund Hall replaced Garfield as the resident camp dining hall.  Probably the camp directors felt there could be some benefit to serving supper on a floor that held still during meals.

The money was raised for construction of the dining hall and the pool by the Camp Development Fund of 1965 and 1966.

From The Millwheel of November-December 1966: "Construction of the dining hall at Camp Hilaka, by Burns Construction Company, is now underway. It will serve campers in less advanced units, and will be a commissary for the advanced units - Paddler, Waterfront, Pioneers, Outposters, primitive and CIT's who will still eat and cook out as usual."

The Millwheel of May-June 1967 announces the dedication of the pool and George Gund Dining Hall set for May 21. A Blessing of the House ceremony was planned along with a flag ceremony and a performance by a Senior guitar group.

Per recollection of Corey Ann Ringle:  Gund Hall was built with no indoor restrooms.  One was added in 1999.
