Hilaka: preparation and dedication
It took a couple of years before the addition of the Neal property was ready for girls to use. The Neals' driveway was not part of the purchase, so a new access had to be constructed constructed from Oviatt Rd. The Cleveland Girl Scout council had no money for improvements because they had spend all available funds on the purchase and transformation of Camp Margaret Bates in Macedonia. Volunteer labor was essential, and the girls themselves did much of the work to build new campsites.
The basics of the new property were covered and the land dedicated in June of 1960. Clearly, it was no ordinary camp. The Cleveland Council began preparing for expansion to fulfill the property's potential.
