MEMORIES: DONNA RYPINSKI (1976)

I caught my first fish at the lake. Someone had left a home made rod, so I just picked it up and used it.

We made sit-upons (seats) using Charles Chips cans. We would sit by the fire on them, roast marshmallows, sing songs and tell stories.

It was early spring when our group went for the last time. There were several of us walking on the ice, knowing we shouldn't have. When I heard cracking I started walking back to land, I had the leader's son with me. We fell through about 2 -1/2 ft. As a team, they rescued me with the boy.

Hilaka was the only camp our troop would go to! If I remember right, troops were assigned to camps.

We had to spend 2-3 days together, we had to learn to get along. We had to help each other out or be miserable.
